National Park Service, Organ Pipe National Monument, AZ (May – September 2005)
Wildlife Biological Field Intern assisting the Natural Resources Division and Park Enforcement Rangers in resource planning for wildlife surveys and border crossing impact mitigation. Developed a database of all recorded sightings of endangered Sonoran Pronghorn in the park over a sixty year period from historical notes, field observation and radio telemetry data. Monitored endangered species, border crossing impacts, and illegal vehicular access on wilderness areas using Garmin and Trimble GPS and ArcGIS, assisted in field surveys and census counts of endangered species such as the lesser long-nosed bat, Quitobaquito pupfish, and desert tortoise, and behavioral observations of Sonoran Pronghorn and maintenance of fencing and irrigation at captive breeding enclosure in Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.
