Academic Projects
Geography 210: Designed a map displaying the top three locations for an environmental education center in a given location. The goal was to find ideal locations that needed to have: sloped land between 0-5 degrees, easy access and within 800 meters to the highway, hiking trails within 300 meters, known fault lines away from the lot 500 meters or further, and was a privately owned parcel. Program used in ESRI’s ArcGIS.
Geography 312: Created a poster for the trucking company ITS Logistics. The poster provided information about who and what ITS is for their customers and employees. Programs used were ESRI’s ArcGIS, and Adobe illustrator. Data was provided by ITS Logistics management.
Geography 405: Generated the hypothetical question “Where would be the best place for ITS Logistics to relocated?” This was answered by taking their top 10 customers, and running the spatial analysis tool Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW). Programs used were ESRI’s ArcGIS, Adobe illustrator, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Geography 409: This project looked at undeveloped lots in Downtown Reno. The question was “If the City of Reno wanted to create a green space, such as an urban garden, which lot has the best available sunlight?” The percentage of each lot’s sunlight was calculated by taking the shade in the lot and then dividing it from the lots overall size. Tools used for this project was ESRI’s ArcGIS, Google Earth, Google Earth Pro, Microsoft’s Excel, and Adobe illustrator.
