The City of Indian Wells, with just over 5,100 full-time residents, is a premier resort destination located in the heart of the Coachella Valley. The City organization operates under a contract model with 28 full-time employees who manage contracts for many of the high-quality services provided to residents. The City is a Council/Manager City with five Council Members elected at large. This model provides fiscal stability and enables the City to respond quickly to change. An operating budget of approximately $40 million annually is
backed by $65 million in reserves, allowing Indian Wells to implement exciting projects and events.

The Assistant Planner performs a variety of professional, technical, and routine to complex planning activities including review of development and land use applications, zoning, use permits, and environmental review. The position provides assistance to the public regarding regulations, standards, and the development review process; in addition to preparing written
project analysis, staff reports, makes presentations to the Architecture and Landscape Committee and Planning Commission, and assists with the preparation of City resolutions and ordinances.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with a major in urban and regional planning or closely related field and one (1) year of professional public planning experience.
