Our Integrity and Operations Services (IOS) group is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Charleston, West Virginia to support our Geographic Information Services (GIS) team.
We are seeking a driven GIS Technician who will be responsible for assisting in duties that are primarily focused on geographic information system (GIS) data creation and maintenance to support TC Energy’s US Gas Operations group. The successful candidate must be skilled in the utilization of GIS, mapping, and database technologies that are required to meet business and team objectives.
Reporting to the Supervisor of GIS Services, the GIS Technician will possess fundamental knowledge of gas transmission and storage systems, paired with experience in the use of GIS Software. The technician will work with senior members of the IOS team and other TC Energy stakeholders to assist in the completion of projects and other tasks by providing unwavering support through the execution of basic GIS functions.

What you’ll do
Use forms and workflows to enter data in GIS databases
Follow established procedures to select map data and objects to populate database tables and attributes
Review and make routine interpretations of data sources and use basic GIS software functions and workflows to enter, edit, and update GIS spatial data, to include points, lines, and polygons, attributing data into databases or layers, following standard procedures
Research a variety of source documents to verify data accuracy and completeness
Follow established and detailed procedures, entering parameters and generating standard GIS products including maps, shape files, graphics, tables, and reports to meet specific customer requirements
Research and respond to customer requests for information
Support senior team members in client meetings
Assist in facilitation of small group project and client work sessions
Provide daily support for client needs.
Convert spatial data from one coordinate system to another
Convert maps into standard non-GIS formats such as PDF
Assure compliance with regulations and operational plans
Initiate and identify inefficiencies and make improvements to processes and methods
Provide new ideas on procedures and savings
Adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and unexpected events in a fast-paced and challenging environment
Foster effective communication with the Manager, the team, and with customers
Suggest process improvements to further enhance safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
Other tasks as required
Graduation from a 2- or 3-year technical school program or an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, IT, or a closely related field
1-2 years of ESRI GIS work experience
Proficiency in the use and presentation of ESRI GIS cartography maps
Familiarity with business processes, engineering concepts, change management concepts, quality, and performance management concepts
Proficiency in the utilization of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint), relational databases (Access, Oracle), Internet technologies (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Edge), Directory Utilities (Windows Explorer), Windows, and email (Outlook)
Knowledge of GPS data collection and standards and the ability to import the data into GIS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, IT, or a closely related field
Experience and process knowledge in the utility industries
This position requires candidates to
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
