Software Project Manager

NatureServe is hiring a project manager to guide software solutions from proposal development to delivery. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of professional experience managing software projects using an agile development approach.
NatureServe is growing our team to support an expanding portfolio of technology projects involving new and existing software applications. Some of the applications we build allow scientists to collect and manage information about rare and endangered species and ecosystems. Other applications provide conservation professionals and planners with tools that analyze this data and help guide their conservation decisions. Finally, we build websites that present this information to educate the public on the natural world that surrounds them, allowing them to explore the challenges that face it and discover the ways in which they can help.
NatureServe is not a traditional software development company. We are a non-profit primarily comprised of scientists and conservation professionals. As a software project manager, you will join a team of talented, dedicated software engineers and scientists who work together as members of agile teams.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The software project manager will pursue, manage and promote a variety of projects involving delivery of customized software applications. Candidates with several years of professional project management experience are strongly preferred, though we will consider individuals with more limited experience who can demonstrate their ability to learn quickly.
The software project manager responsibilities include establishing work plans and coordinating team activities to ensure that project goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Position responsibilities also include understanding the potential customer market for NatureServe technology projects, pursuing new business leads and developing proposals that are responsive to customer technical requirements, schedule and budget constraints. Candidates with experience working in a non-profit setting and constrained budget environment are encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work with project stakeholders to define project scope and objectives, and ensure technical feasibility
Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
Lead or coordinate development of project proposals, including schedule and budget details
Develop and share comprehensive project plans with clients and team members to assign project team and client responsibilities, guide and track progress
Manage the client relationship, and maintain a regular schedule of meetings with the client to review progress of deliverables and clarify requirements as needed
Closely monitor progress and adjust project scope, schedule or costs
Coordinate resource availability and allocation for both internal resources and third-party vendors for successful project execution
Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
Report and escalate critical issues to management as needed
Develop product marketing strategies to attract new client prospects

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of three years of project leadership experience focused on engaging others in the delivery and execution of IT solutions and service deliverables
Solid technical background and proficiency with software programming concepts
Experience managing software projects using an agile approach
Excellent client-facing and internal written and verbal communication skills
Experience organizing and conducting online meetings using web conferencing tools, e.g. GoTo Meeting
Proficiency with issue tracking software and help desk ticketing systems, e.g. Jira and Freshdesk
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Established leadership skills
Ability to manage more than one project at a time
OTHER USEFUL SKILLS:
The following skills are not requirements, but would be very beneficial.
Background in conservation biology, ecology, or natural resources management
Experience using or developing web mapping applications
Project Management Professional certification
Proposal and grant writing experience
Fluency in Spanish, French or Portuguese
Scrum Master Training
