Description of Work
This position is responsible for development, enhancement, and support of new and existing software, database and web applications with a focus on geospatial technology. The person in this role will develop web and mobile applications, GIS tools, desktop tools, and custom dashboards. Development responsibilities will largely focus on front end technologies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develops software using a solid Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for the development of custom applications using HTML 5, Boundless SDK, Java Scripting, OpenLayers, and REST service technologies.
The ideal candidate will be experienced with BoundlessGeo products and familiar with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) services and standards. Java Scripting skills fundamental to web development include using npm, Node, React Material Web Components, and Redux.
Designs and modifies database structures in PostgreSQL. Familiarity with PostGIS and spatial database operations is required.
Works with GIS Admin to maintain and modify OGC web services hosted by GeoServer.
Updates and administers custom applications to meet current software standards to ensure maintenance compliance as well as staying informed of the latest technologies and features.
Develops and documents functional requirements, application deployment procedures, architecture for development and testing, configuration scripts, and other associated technical specifications.
Bachelorís Degree in computer science, Information Systems, Geography or related field. Experience and certifications can be used in place of education on a situational basis.
A minimum of five years of experience with the development of web services including application server technologies (Windows Server operating systems, IIS), client-server connectivity, such as Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC), ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), ADO.NET, and web development technologies such as; Apache, Tomcat, XML, CSS, and PHP.
A minimum of three years of experience in software development following industry best practices for project management, Change, Release and Configuration Management, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), QA/QC, as well as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
Proficiency in drafting system requirements and functional designs for information technology projects.
Proficiency in developing plans and conducting quality testing of databases, software and applications. This includes deploying, coordinating and training custom applications and software to end users.
Experience with Linus OS is beneficial.
Experience with ESRI Products and other GIS software is beneficial.
Experience with creating analytics dashboards and/or Tableau software is beneficial.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.
Ability to travel for work is a plus.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills.
GCR Headquarters in New Orleans, LA. is the preferred location for this position in order to work closely with the GIS Team Lead. For the ideal candidate, alternate staffing locations at GCR and remote offices will be considered.
A minimum 25% Travel will be required to visit client site during critical points in the project.
