I have a great interest in GIS work and its various applications, especially within the environmental science field. This is a collaborative project between Girl Scouts of the USA, Elliott Wildlife Values Project, National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration. This was an intensive week of learning the fundamentals of oceanography, ocean technology, coral reef ecology, habitat preservation, and marine biology.

 At St. Mary’s College of Maryland, I completed my Biology degree with classes such as Tropical Biology, Animal Behavior, Ecology of Coastal Systems, and Ichthyology. For my college senior thesis, I created a novel sampling apparatus to research the benthic population amongst the protected oyster reefs of the Magothy River. This lead to my presentation at the AAUS Conference in Atlanta, GA in 2009 and my first publication in the AAUS 28th Scientific Symposium.

After graduating I began working as a contractor at the Armed Forces Radiobiological Research Institute. My three man research group runs as many as four protocols at once, with one of these protocols under my charge. During my time here I have both independently and collaboratively designed and executed experiments on novel radiation countermeasures that have lead to eight presentations and five, co-authored, publications. I routinely produce basic descriptive statistical summaries from the data collected, including ANOVAs, t-test and chi-square analysis, and provide quarterly and annual summaries for my Principle Investigator to use for grant report updates.

I graduated from Portland State University with honors with a B.S. in Environmental Studies.  I focused on aquatic ecology with many lectures for watershed management, biological water quality monitoring, entomology, and taxonomy as well as field studies in these subjects.  I also completed a one-year honors thesis, noted in my resume’, as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, where I researched aquatic benthic macroinvertebrates response to anthropologic stress.  

In my free time I volunteer for environmental monitoring projects to gain experience in the field. My current long term volunteer project includes revitalizing a water quality monitoring program for the Friends of Sausal Creek, located in Oakland, CA.  I am developing content for educational seminars and provide hands on training for aquatic ecology and water quality monitoring using benthic macroinvertebrates.
